For hoteliers, it’s time to spruce up their resume as there will be jobs galore from next month in the UAE hospitality sector. Abu Dhabi-based Rotana Hotels is initiating a major hiring spree from March 2012 to recruit more than 1,000 hoteliers prior to the opening of four new properties in the UAE.

Rotana, which currently manages a portfolio of 70 properties throughout the Middle East and Africa, will open two hotels each in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with openings planned in the second and third quarters of 2012. The recruitment drive for these properties will be begin from March 2012 and will run till May 2012.

Anne Oberdoerster, Associate Vice-President for Human Resources at Rotana, told Emirates 24l7 that Rotana “will require more than 1,000 new employees to support its growth targets in the UAE, a welcome development for an industry hit by substantial lay-offs as a result of the global downturn previously.”

The group will tap the local talent as well as hire from the overseas markets to fill a wide range of junior, middle and senior level positions. Though it will utilise multiple sources for the recruitment of talented staff, however a large number of hoteliers will be hired through the group’s recruitment website.

Oberdoerster said: “There are a number of procedures and it depends on the grade for which the applicant is applying for. For example, for the supervisory and managerial roles in particular, there is Internal Succession Planning. Using the Rotana Recruitment Website and other online sources is one of the most important sources we avail of for recruiting. As well, we ensure our attendance at career fairs and hotel school visits, and lastly, we also pertain to overseas recruitment partners and recruitment trips.”

She told Emirates24l7 that the group will hire highly trained and experienced hoteliers in the senior category while the junior staff will be hired from abroad, whereby ready skills are less important and the attitude counts.

“It’s a mixture of both; we’ll be looking for trained employees within the market, especially for supervisory and managerial roles in order to enable people to progress and develop. However, for Junior positions are mostly recruited from abroad, whereby ready skills are less important and the attitude counts, with training and grooming as required are already obtained.

“In some cases, supervisory and managerial positions would as well be sourced from abroad as ‘fresh blood’ enables us to stay innovative and might let us see things from different angles based on their skills and experiences set,” Oberdoerster added.

The recruitment doors will open from…

The two new 5-star Dubai properties - Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana and Al Ghurair Arjaan – will open doors during the third quarter this year. Al Ghurair Rayhaan will offer 428 rooms and suites, designed with up-to-date technology and facilities catering to both business and leisure guests.

The second hotel Al Ghurair Arjaan – a deluxe hotel apartment nestled in the heart of Dubai, is directly connected to the 5-star Al Ghurair Rayhaan. The 193-apartment hotel will also open in third quarter.

Hiring for these two Dubai-based properties will begin from April 2012.

The other two hotels opening in Abu Dhabi are Centro Capital Centre and Capital Centre Rotana which will open in second and third quarters, respectively.

Situated within the Capital Centre development in Abu Dhabi, Centro Capital Centre and Capital Centre hotels will house 414 and 300, respectively, rooms and suites. Both the hotels will house a commercial zone, a marina, outdoor cafés, retail, restaurants and premier residences. The recruitment drive for Centro Capital Centre hotel will begin from next month while Capital Centre Rotana will start taking applications from interested candidates from May 2012.

Interested candidates can submit their resumes for jobs in the above mentioned hotels through Rotana’s recruitment website – www.rotanacareers.com.

Oberdoerster said all four properties are on track for timely completion.
