The price of a Samsung Note 5 has been dropping fast ahead of the launch of the new Note in August.

Launched last August at a little more than Dh2,700, the smartphone with the S pen held on to its premier position even after the launch of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge this March. At one point, the Galaxy S7 was priced cheaper than the S7.

But with the expected launch of a Note just a little over a month away, the retail price of the Note 5 has dropped and dropped significantly.

The device is now retailing on several online stores for Dh1,550, a significant drop compared to the pricing just three months ago.

More interestingly, the Note 4 was selling at Dh1,900 plus last year when the Note 5 was launched.

The Note 4 can be currently bought for anywhere between Dh1,300 upwards on several online stores.

Meanwhile, the Note 5 can still stand up to most of the premium flagship devices with its powerful features.

The 5.7-inch device has Quad HD, Super Amoled screens, 1.5GHz  octacore Exynos 7420 chipset, and 4GB of RAM with a 16MP camera and 3,000 mAh battery. Samsung has also been rolling out the latest Marshmallow updates into its devices.

Samsung fans are expecting the new Note to come with major upgrades in terms of sensors and build quality.

According to latest rumours, Samsung might introduce a new feature - the iris scanner, that would add an additional layer of security along with the fingerprint scanner.

The information about the iris scanner was first leaked by Evan Blass through his twitter handle @evleaks. He had also earlier pointed out about the possibility of Samsung naming the new Note as Note 7 instead of calling it the Note 6.

It is also being reported that Samsung could abandon the 32GB internal storage version and start with a base storage limit of 64GB and move upwards to 128 and 256 GB options.

Samsung had removed the option of expandable storage from the Note 5 but a micro SD slot could see a return as the South Korean firm faced much flak over the decision.

In terms of other specs, the new Note could feature 5.7-inch screen with QHD display and possibly re-introduce edge screen on both sides. The device will be powered by Snapdragon 823 chipset and 6GB of RAM.
