Samsung has finally launched its new range of SUHD TV across the Middle East and said it received record pre-orders from the UAE.

Samsung Gulf had started accepting pre-orders for its latest upgraded smart TV the SUHD range that came with the Quantum Dot technology.

Customers who pre-ordered the TV sets also got a free Galaxy S7 edge as free gift.

The South Korean firm which announced that it had emerged as the number one brand in terms of TV sales across the Middle East said the number of pre-orders that it received for the SUHD range beat all previous records. However id did not release any numbers of the exact number of units that were pre-ordered during the month long period.

The new SUHD TVs start at a price of Dh9,999 for a 55-inch device and goes up to Dh34,999 for a 78-inch TV and Dh74,999 for a 88-inch device.

"UAE is a very key market for Samsung. Most of our products are launched here simultaneously along with other major markets. It is the same with the SUHD range and the response we received has been immense," says Haris Munef, Head of Marketing and Retail center division at Samsung Gulf.

Samsung has introduced the Quantum Dot technology into the new sets which it says will enable primary colours to be more clearly distinguished in comparison to conventional TVs.

The TV can also stream content onto smartphones allowing customers not to miss a programmer when they get into the kitchen or the washroom.

"No other TV manufacturer has introduced such a feature. We are the first," says Munef adding that it will only work on the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphones starting with the S6. "The smartphone will have to be within 15 metres in an open room without too many walls for it to work," he added.

Samsung had in 2013 launched Evolution Kits along with its UHD TVs, stating that consumers need not upgrade to newer models but just upgrade the CPU of the kit that could be attached to the back of the TV set. However the company discontinued the evolution kit models as of last year.

"The strategy was clearly not working for us. Moreover, it added to a lot of confusion with several consumers purchasing evolution kits in Europe and America and shipping them to the UAE only to find out that they were not compatible with models sold here," said one Samsung official.

Meanwhile, sales of high-end television sets especially UHD TVs are set to increase significantly during the next two years with more content providers scaling up their content to 4K.

Both Samsung and LG are expected to benefit with reports indicating that the global sales of UHD TVs might cross $1.2 billion by the end of the year.

According to Korea Herald, a report by the country's Science Ministry and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute states that global sales of the premium TVs will likely be on an upward trend from 990.9 billion won in 2015 to 1.4 trillion won in 2016.
