Samsung to smash iPhone 5 Aug launch with Galaxy Note 2: Report

Even as Apple Inc., for the first time in its star-studded history, plays catch-up with a competitor – Samsung Electronics – the challenger itself is making quantum jumps to crush Apple’s dominance of the mobile devices landscape, once and for all.

It is no secret – anymore, anyway – that Apple is planning to unveil its (still) much-awaited iPhone 5 in August to get back in a hurry at the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is selling like hotcakes and, according to initial reports, is trumping the sale of the iPhone 4S by a margin, at least in some locations.

So, as Apple’s Cupertino-based base scrambles to assemble the iPhone 5 in double-quick time, Samsung has decided to not sit pretty and to continue stepping on the gas in this seemingly never-ending race.

The South Korean firm is now apparently upping the ante and is rumoured to announce the launch of Galaxy Note’s successor, Galaxy Note 2, in August itself.

According to MK News, a Korean news website, Samsung Electronics will announce a flexible display-equipped successor model to the Galaxy Note in August, and launch it by October, so as to compete against Apple’s iPhone 5.

Recent rumours point to an unprecedented rush at Apple’s factories to put together the new iPhone 5 to curtail the potential lead that Samsung’s Galaxy S3 might gain as early adopters, tired of waiting for Apple’s new device, spend their cash on an already available and feature-rich phone.

The fire between Apple and Samsung will get further fanned with the rumoured Galaxy Note 2 adding more fuel to it. It is expected that Galaxy Note 2 will feature a 5.5-inch super large HD display (as opposed to the 5.3-in display of the earlier version), a quad-core processor, and a 12-megapixel camera.

Additionally, it will use an unbreakable plane (UBP) display, which is a precursor to the flexible display. The thinner display will also allow for a slimmer design by giving more space for the baseband core chip and application processor.

Samsung’s upcoming device is rumoured to be running on Google’s latest Android operating system version 4.1 Jelly Bean, a successor to the current Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS, which means that it will be well-equipped to compete against Apple’s smartphones.
