Du to launch iPhone 4S in the UAE on Friday

Du joins Applie iPhone 4S race, launch on December 16

Following last week's announcement by Etisalat, one of UAE's two telecom providers, that it is accepting pre-orders for iPhone 4S, du, the other operator, has told Emirates 24|7 that it will be launching the device as soon as this Friday.

A senior du official confirmed to this website in an e-mailed statement that the phone will be made available to its customers across all du shops within the week.

“The much awaited iPhone 4S will be within our customers’ grasp shortly! We are glad to confirm the availability of iPhone 4S in du Shops beginning December 16,” the statement sent in reply to Emirates 24/7 queries, said.

However, details of prices are yet to be announced.

“Details regarding retail price(s) and plan(s) will be announced soon. As always, our customers can expect a superior user experience and competitive tariff plan(s),” the statement added.

However, Emirates 24/7 has learnt that the prices will be similar to those announced by its rival operator. While Etisalat has priced the new iPhone 4S at Dh2,749 for 16GB, Dh3,149 for 32GB and Dh3,549 for 64 GB devices, the du devices will be available at Dh2,749 for 16GB, Dh3,199 for 32GB and Dh3,599 for the 64 GB version.

Etisalat had on Friday announced that customers could pre-book the iPhone 4S using their credit card by logging on to etisalat’s website.

The competition between Du and Etisalat has made customer's life easier. Du always gives some super offers... followed by Etisalat.

I started using iPhone when it launched 3GS and then moved on when it launched 4, but I dont think I would be going for iPhone 4S at the moment. I would be renewing MyPlan with Etisalat where I would be entitled to renew the plan with a new handset and that I think I would like to try Sony Xperia Arc for a very, very attractive price.

I still use my iPhone 3G! :d but Android is still evolving, so I am rather scared about the Android performance. I felt the Galaxy Note would be super fast given its 1.4GHz processor, and it is not so, I think iPhone4S will be a good phone to own.

I have the old iPhone 4 and have no intention of upgrading. I much prefer Android phones and don't see why we should have to pay for so many things and have 1/2 apps that constantly ask upgrade etc.
