Google Maps launched for iPhone users in UAE

App has also been launched in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia

iPhone users in UAE have a reason to rejoice. Google has finally made its much-awaited Google Maps App available in the UAE app store.

Google Maps was originally launched in December 2012 but it was not available in the UAE.

Apart from the UAE, the English version of the app is now also available in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Google also released an update to the app through version 1.1 that integrates it to Google contacts enabling a user to search local contacts through the app.

Making the announcement through its blog post, Google said: “Today, we’re releasing an update for Google Maps for iPhone with new search icons that make finding local places faster and easier, and with integration of your Google Contacts to make it simple to find your friends.”

Google also said it has launched new icons for restaurants, coffee shops and other types of places to quickly see nearby haunts.

The app was first launched in December and desperate iOS users lapped it up as Apple maps continue to be a disaster, at least in the UAE.
