Since the dawn of civilisation – or at least since clothes came into fashion – teenaged boys have dreamt of taking a peek at beneath the surface of the cloth.
Along came the X-ray, but it didn’t quite fulfil their fantasies.
We've heard about the X-ray shades and stuff, but nothing has really got us interested.
It’s this X-rated X-ray app that apparently works on Apple’s new iPhone 5 and offers see-through view from its camera that caught our fancy once we heard about it from one of our avid reades. Thanks, Alex.
The so-called Nomao X-Ray app lets you see people minus clothes. Or at least that’s what it promises. Check out this video to see the application in action.
It is really cool – if you ignore the small detail that it’s fake.
This video is obviously doctored, and there are quite a few more such clips on YouTube, but they are all fakes. Every time a new Apple device is unveiled, such apps start doing the rounds in the virtual world.
What’s not a fake, however, is the free MooseJaw X-Ray app which is indeed rated 12+ by Apple for “Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes” and “Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content or Nudity”.
The Moosejaw X-Ray App is an augmented reality experience designed to work with the Moosejaw Winter Catalogue, which has been available since November 15, 2011.
What the developers have done is to click the models in the same pose for the catalogue as well as the app – only, they’ve made the models shed some of their clothes for the images in the app. So, when you run the app and hover your device (it works with both the iPhone and the iPad), the camera scans the image on the catalogue and shows the same but semi-naked pose of the model – which kinda looks cool and blows you away at least the first time round.
“Experience the latest Moosejaw Outdoor Gear and Apparel Catalogue in a whole new way. Once the X-Ray App is installed and opened, simply aim your device’s camera at pages in the catalogue to activate the X-Ray scanner,” the description suggests.
“Through the app you’ll see what our models are wearing underneath the best stuff from The North Face, Patagonia, Arc’teryx, Moosejaw and more.” Hmmm.
Wait – what if you don’t have the print version of the catalogue?
“The Moosejaw X-Ray App is designed to work with digital versions of the catalogue that can be found on its website or the Moosejaw Catalogues App for iPad.” Now hmmm.
