Here’s a crash course in feeling poor, whatever your earnings may be.

And we forewarn you: don’t even think of comparing your daily/monthly wage with what this man earns – unless, of course, you are one Warren Buffet reading this piece. In which case, by the time you finish reading it (approximately 3 minutes), you’d be richer by more than Dh281,000.

Yes, for the other 7.13 billion people in this world, this is how much Warren Buffet has earned every day in 2013 so far: a massive Dh5.63 million ($1.53 million). Billionaire Buffett’s net worth grew by a massive $12.7 billion, or Dh46,647,100,000 in the 345 days from January 1, 2013, until December 11, 2013, according to a Wealth-X study.

Their calculations suggest that Buffett made more than Dh135 million (about $37 million) per day in 2013, making him the billionaire who made the most money this year.

“With a gain of $12.7 billion in 2013, the legendary billionaire investor and notable philanthropist’s net worth at the end of the year stands at $59.1 billion (Dh217 billion),” Wealth-X said in its report.

Interestingly, that still does not make him the richest person on this planet. That title, says the report, goes to Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, who added Dh42.23 billion ($11.5 billion) to his personal fortune in 2013, ending the year with assets totalling a jaw-dropping Dh267 billion ($72.6 billion).

In No. 3 spot on the list is American casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, who raked in Dh41.8 billion ($11.4 billion) in 2013 from his gambling properties in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore. His personal net worth is estimated to be more than Dh128 billion ($35 billion).

The individuals on the top 10 list collectively gained Dh374 billion ($101.8 billion) in 2013, an average gain of Dh37.4 billion ($10.2 billion) each. The combined wealth of the 10 individuals now totals Dh1.27 trillion ($347 billion), up from Dh900 billion ($245 billion) in January 2013.

On average, they made Dh106.5 million ($29 million) per day in 2013, and increased their wealth by 41.6 per cent, outperforming the 24 per cent returns seen in the S&P 500 this year.
