3 veiled women banned from entering France

A police union says three Saudi women who refused to remove their face veils at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport have been barred entry to France.

A 2011 French law bans people from wearing Islamic face-covering veils anywhere in public.

An official with the SGP-FO police union said Tuesday that border police asked the women to remove their veils after they arrived Monday on a flight from Doha, Qatar. The official says the women refused, border police refused them entry in France, and they returned to Doha Monday night. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly for the police.

Supporters of the ban say the veil contradicts France's principles of secularism and women's rights. Some Muslim groups say it stigmatizes moderate Muslims.

Thats the problem nowadays .. Muslims are either too liberal, or too extreme .. We should follow the middle path .. A practising Muslim should cover up, but when asked to uncover her face for security reasons, MUST oblige and show her face - this had been stated by many scholars ..

Why dont these women follow the same 'culture' in other countries, that they try to push down the throats of expats who visit their country. A veiled person crossing over a border into your country is a serious risk if not identified!!

At last a European Govt standing it's ground. Strictly speaking covering of the face is not Islamic therefore they have absolutely no rights to demand it based on religious freedom - which by the way non-muslims are not allowed in most islamic countries.

It is their law and country. Why we should expect them to bend their law as per our convenience. Like here in UAE/Dubai many expats are there, who are obeying UAE laws that must be appreciated.

I am against forcing women to remove veil, but at security check points this is mandatory, there should be verification of the identity.
