Asian immigrant robs with help of maid

A Filipina maid allegedly stole Dh150,000 in cash and Dh10,000 worth of gold with help of her Pakistani boyfriend, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The maid SK, 30, is also accused of having consensual sex with her jobless boyfriend AA, 32.

The maid's Emirati employer MS, lodged a police complaint and accused SK of stealing a safe box which contained Dh150,000 in cash in addition a hand bag of his wife which contained jewellery worth Dh10,000 along with few important documents.

"On March 2, at around 9am, I received a phone call from my wife who told me that she cannot find the safe and her hand bag. I informed the police about the theft and then rushed home. I searched the maid's room and found my wife's handbag left open on the bed. I also questioned my neighbour's driver who stays outside the house," testified the victim.

The neighbour's driver testified that he saw a man carrying a cartoon box on his shoulder at around 7am and left the house.

The driver told the victim, "I did not ask him anything as I thought he was a worker in the house and did not see the maid accompanying him."

There was no trace of forced break in and the lock of the wardrobe was also not tampered with.

After six days police arrested the man who was seen getting out of the house, the following day the maid was also arrested.

The two admitted to the crime saying both were was facing financial crisis and so they decided to commit the crime.

The maid allowed her boyfriend into the house at night and he stayed until morning to rob after her employer and his children left for school.

The wife was alone in the house when the two committed the crime.

They sneaked into the bedroom and stole the box and the handbag and left the house. The maid accompanied her boyfriend to his rented room. The Pakistani man then took the safe box to an isolated area in Jumeira and opened it. He found money and documents in it.

The accused confessed to the police that he took the money and threw the box in a garbage bin. He then left his accommodation in Al Qusais area.

The maid claimed that she gave him all the gold but got only Dh200.

The boyfriend told the police that he transferred Dh100,000 to his home country while spent the remaining amount.

Police confiscated the jewellery in his accommodation and also retrieved pictures of the safe box he click before and after breaking it.

The pictures and the mobile phone of the accused were handed over to the prosecution.

The neighbour's driver recongnised the accused during identification parade.

It was later found that the Pakistani accused is an unlawful immigrant as he entered the country illegally following deportation.

The court will give sentence on May 25.
