Drugs party organised through Facebook

Officials of the Excise Department, who raided a beach party in Dehiwala area, took 15 youth into custody along with drug pills, ganja and foreign liquor, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The organisers had planned to commence the beach party around 5pm last week and Facebook had been used for promotions regarding the party.

They had arranged to provide free drinks can to each participant, for an entrance ticket of SLR1,500.

The Department of Excise told the media that promoting liquor in that way was illegal. There were around 3,000 young men and women at the party and 2,000 were waiting to enter, a participant said. 

An excise official said drug pills were being sold for SLR3,000.
