Ten former employees of Emirates Transport are accused of stealing tyres worth more than Dh16 million over four years from 2008.

TH, 36, a systems programmer, is accused of forging official electronic documents related to tyre purchases. The theft of tyres was done in agreement and coordination with MA, 55, the company’s purchase coordinator.

MA is also accused of agreeing with store keepers of Emirates Transport’s branches in Bada Zayed, Sharjah , Umm Rulmoul in Dubai and Musaffah in Abu Dhabi for stealing tyres. MA is also accused of agreeing with an assistant manager at the company for stealing tyres worth more than Dh1 million. Eight staffers who agreed with MA on committing the crime are accused of theft and criminal complicity.

The company’s electronic purchase system was put under observation after large sums of money were found missing.

A programmer noticed that TH, his colleague, was logging into the system and changing some details of purchases and operations though he did not have the authority to log into the system.

TH was then put under observation by a team from the IT department which found that TH was making changes in electronic documents.

“Checking his computer, we found a programme that he used to log in and make quick changes, so police was informed,” testified the company’s legal adviser.

Police arrested TH who admitted to the crime after the evidence was shown to him. After the company’s stores were checked, huge differences in quantities of tyres delivered and the quantities shown in documents as delivered.

The Court will reconvene on October 30.
