10 year jail term upheld by Appeal court

The Dubai Appeal Court upheld 10 years jail term and Dh50,000 fine sentence been awarded to a Nigerian visitor for smuggling in his digestive organ 78 tablets that contained more than 1.2Kgs of cocaine.

According to the records, Customs Inspector, Asma B, 24, noticed that the passenger DS, 34, who arrived in Dubai International Airport on June, 28, at 1.45am coming from Brazil being in an abnormal condition.

“He looked scared, tired and was looking around. I suspected him and asked my colleague to search him. In his luggage we did not find any banned items. However, the x-ray check showed strange stuff in his body,” she testified.

Confronting him with that, the passenger admitted to carrying cocaine in his digestive organ.

Police referred him to the hospital where he released from his stomach 78 capsules that contained cocaine

The accused admitted to the crime and claimed that he was planning to smuggle them into another country being just a transit passenger to Dubai.

The convict will be deported after serving his jail term.
