UAE anti-drug squads seized 126kg of narcotics destined for Dubai aboard a wooden boat and arrested six smugglers just before the end of the year.

Anti-drug squads from the Ministry of Interior raided the suspected boat as it sailed towards Khor Dubai and seized the stuff, which included 66kg of hashish and 60kg of Methamphetamine, known as crystal.

Police said they had suspected the boat was carrying illegal items and decided to search it just as it docked in the Khor on September 22.

“The operation was mounted by federal anti-drug squads from the Ministry of Interior and was codenamed Misk Al Khitam (the sweet end) as it was the last major drug seizure during 2011,” said Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi, director of the anti-drug squad division at the Ministry.

Quoted by the semi official daily Alittihad, he said six smugglers were arrested but did not identify them. He said the boat had come from a “neighbouring” country and that police had also arrested the man who was supposed to receive the narcotics.
