15 Asians held in Sharjah for illegal phone call trade

Sharjah Police arrested 15 Asian men in various parts of the northern city on charges of violating telecommunications rules and selling cheap phone calls without licence.

The 15 confessed to practising activities allowing customers to make international calls for just Dh1 per minute, much below the official rate in the UAE.

“They were receiving customers at their apartments and selling international calls for Dh1 per minute…they all confessed to practising such illegal activity,” said a police statement, carried by the Sharjah-based daily Al Khaleej.
