17.5kg of heroin worth Dh1.25m seized in Dubai

Drugs were found concealed in wooden boxes and in wooden legs of two tables

Dubai’s anti-narcotics police has seized 17.5kg of heroin with a market value of Dh1.25 million from a warehouse in the Al Quoz industrial area.

Two men were also arrested. One is a worker in the warehouse and the other a driver in a transport company.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, director of drug control in Dubai, said the heroin was found concealed in five boxes and in the wooden legs of two tables.

One of the two accused admitted he was in touch with drug smuggling gang members in Pakistan, and he gets instructions from them about transport, and sale of drugs by mobile phone.

The second defendant admitted that he had brought the drugs into the UAE with the help of a friend living in Pakistan.
