A 50-year-old Afghan passenger allegedly tried to smuggle 90 capsules in his intestines that contained about 1kg of hashish, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A customs inspector at Dubai International Airport suspected the passenger who was walking abnormally and did not have any luggage except a plastic bag stuffed with his clothes.

The passenger, MK, claimed that he planned to stay in a hotel in Dubai for one week.

Searching the bag, the inspector did not find anything. However, on subjecting the passenger to an X-ray check, capsules were seen in his digestive organ.

Under the supervision of anti-narcotics officers at the airport, MK released some of the capsules. He released the rest later.

MK admitted to transporting hashish and claimed that he was planning to hand them over to someone in Dubai.

The court will give its verdict on November 26.
