Two Comoros nationals allegedly assaulted a cleaner in the street and stole his two mobile phones and Dh50 cash.

On July 31, 2013 at around 1pm, OF, 25, Bangladeshi, was walking in Al Satwa area near his accommodation when SI, 21, and HA, 18, student, stopped him and asked him for his ID.

“I pulled out my wallet from my pocket and handed it over to one of them. He turned it back to me and then he asked me to hand him over my wallet. I gave it to him… he opened it and pulled out Dh50 and gave it back to me. Then both held my hands to my back and searched me. They took my mobile phones, I resisted but they punched me in face, shoulders and back until I fell. One of them pulled a knife from his pocket and pointed at my face, saying: ‘If you shouted for help, I will kill you’. They opened the phones and took out the SIM cards and gave it to me before running away,” testified the victim.

The victim notified the police who arrested SI who was still in the same area.

The accused admitted attacking the victim and robbing him with the help of HA. However, SI denied beating and threatening the victim with a knife claiming that HA did that.

HA denied assaulting and threatening the victim and claimed that SI did that.

The victim recognised both the attackers when shown to him via identification parades and pictures.

The Court will give its verdict on November 27.
