Two Pakistanis are accused of possessing for promotion purpose 704 capsules that contained 5.4kg of heroin, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

IH, 55, driver, and MB, 45, businessman, denied the accusation of possessing narcotic drugs.

According to the records, police received a tip off that IH was to receive a large quantity of drugs from an unidentified person and that he will store them until getting further instructions.

“We investigated the information and on July 8, 2013, we prepared a trap to arrest the suspect and the one who was to hand over the drugs to him,” testified Major Obaid Saif.

IH was seen waiting behind labour accommodations in Muhaisna at around 9.30pm. A man came and handed over a big sack to the suspect.

Policemen rushed to the scene but could arrest only one of them, the other running away.

As policemen approached them, they threw aside the sack.

IH, who was standing with the sack next to him, initially denied knowing anything about the sack.

Other policemen ran behind the deliverer, said the officer.

“Searching the area, I saw a man hiding in a truck. I could see part of his head. When I opened the door of the truck, he jumped out from the other door and ran towards a sandy area. I ran after him and caught him,” testified Sergeant Subhi Yousef.

Later, IH refuted his denial and told police that he had received a phone call from Pakistan and his compatriot had asked him to meet businessman MB and to receive heroin from him. “I was supposed to hand the heroin over to a Pakistani who would transport it to Saudi Arabia.

IH changed his story again and told investigators that he himself was supposed to transport drugs to Saudi Arabia. He admitted agreeing to do that in return for Dh12,000 per kilo of heroin.  He also admitted that this was the third time that he would be transporting drugs.

In the court, the two denied the accusation. The court decided to appoint defence lawyers for the accused and adjourned the case until July 7 for hearing affirmative witnesses.
