A drunk Saudi trader is accused of profanity when he cursed God at the check-in counter, when the staff asked him to have some coffee before boarding the flight, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 14, at around 10pm, MM, 45, Moroccan service officer was on duty at Dubai International Airport when AA, 27, approached at the check-in gate.

“I noticed that the passenger was drunk so I asked him to go and have some coffee. He disappeared for five minutes and returned seeking to board the plane,” MM testified.

"Again, I requested him to go and have some coffee as it is not permitted for him to get onboard because he was drunk. He punched me in the waist and then cursed God and cursed me.”

The employee did not utter a word. The police were informed, who arrested the passenger.

MM dropped his charges of assault and verbal insult.

However, the passenger is being prosecuted for contempt of religion.

The accused admitted to Prosecutors that he had consumed alcohol before heading to the airport to fly to Saudi Arabia.

“After I was stopped by the employee I headed to a coffee shop in the airport to have some coffee… I do not remember what happened after that until I was taken to the Airport Police office,” said the passenger.

However, before the court the accused denied the accusation.

Case is adjourned until August 4.
