Three Indian maids, two of who are fugitives, allegedly stole their employer’s money and other belongings after offering her a cup of tea that she made her fall asleep, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On December 16, MS, 44, Emirati, businesswoman, wanted to go and pay the electricity bill which amounted Dh20,000. She was also planning to go and pay the Etisalat bill and to the DNRD to renew the visa of one of her maids MA, 27.

“To pay for expected expenses, I gathered Dh35,000 and put in my hand bag. However, before leaving the house in the morning, I gathered the four maids who work in the house and asked them to reduce the consumption of water and electricity as the bill had come to Dh20,000.  I asked MA to prepare me a cup of tea before I go out. After having the tea I felt very lazy so I napped in the hall and woke up at around 12.50pm.  I called the maids but no one answered except for a Filipina maid,” MS said.

The maid told her employer that she last saw her co-workers at around 10.30am. They were loading some things in a trolley.

“When I asked them about it, they said it was unwanted stuff and they are throwing them away at the garbage bin.  I left them and went into the house as I did not suspect what they were doing.

“However, as they did not return to the house after about half an hour, I started calling them on their mobiles but they did not answer my calls,” the Filipina maid  told her employer who started searching if there was anything missing from the house.

The employer noticed that the accused had stolen the Dh35,000 that was in her bag, in addition to Dh500 that was in a cabinet in the hall,  a Samsung TV, a Canon camera, mobile phone, four boxes of crystal cups in addition to the house keys, so she reported the incident to the police.

Police could arrest only MA and confiscated from her the Canon camera in addition to Dh110 that she admitted to stealing them from her employer. The other two maids identified as BN, 31, and MR, 30 are being prosecuted in absentia.

The three are facing theft accusation and the Court will issue its verdict on May 5.
