A court in Ras Al Khaimah sentenced two Asian housemaids to one month in prison on charges of attempting suicide in two separate cases although one of them denied the accusations.

The court also heard a third case involving an Asian man’s suicide bid.

Although they were separate suicide attempts, they all used the same method in attempting to end their lives by drinking poisonous substance.

One maid told court she did not try to commit suicide as she drank the toxic substance by mistake while the other confessed to the charges, saying she was suffering from persistent disputes with her husband in her home country.

The third defendant denied the suicide charges, telling court that he drank a nail polish removing substance thinking it was ‘mineral water’ as it was in a water bottle. The court adjourned hearings for issuing a sentence at a later date.
