The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance awarded a jobless man and an investor six months in jail followed by deportation after they were found guilty of forging a property ownership certificate and conning a tenant of Dh2,000.

According to the records, the jobless man, SA, 26, Pakistani and the investor SKS, 37, forged photocopies of a property ownership certificate and a property map of Flat No. 2608 at Al Sadaf building in Dubai Marina and used them to con a tenant.

They were also accused of sending the forged photocopies by email to the victim Kamel Mohammed. They were accused of taking Dh2,000 by claiming  to be property brokers and placing an ad on www.dubizzle.com about a flat to let.

They published the first accused’s mobile number who accompanied the victim to the flat. The victim, Mohammed Fawzi, Egyptian, accountant, 31, testified that in May 2010 he was searching for a flat on dubizzle website. “I found three flats in Jumeira Beach Residence for annual rent of Dh80,000. I called the mobile number and spoke to SA and agreed to rent one of the flats. I saw the flat on the next day and handed over Dh2,000 as lease deposit. He sent me by email documents of the flat which aroused my suspicions. I asked him for a copy of his passport but he made some excuses for not showing it to me .

“Checking with the director of the property company, I found out that the documents sent to me were forged and that the flat is owned by Aref Rahimove. So I informed the police,” he testified.

Police arrested the two and confiscated the computers from their homes. The computers contained forged lease contracts of a number of flats and photocopies of passports.
