7 in court for accidentally drowning Emirati

Seven Emirati were charged with the accidental death of a fellow compatriot by the Dibba Fujairah Primary Federal.

According to Al Khaleej newspaper, some of the defendants accompanied by the victim, YM Ahmed, visited Dibba, without the knowledge of the victim’s family.

They went cruising in the sea, during the trip, one of the suspects, who was the leader of the group, asked the driver to stop.

He expressed the wish to go for a swim. A boat attendant later realised that one of them had gone missing.

After a search they found him drowned and immediately took him to the hospital where he died.

The court recorded that the boat was not well equipped with safety harness and first-aid measures. It is also learnt that the owner has employed unqualified workers in the boat.

The defendants were identified as 29-year-old AA Ahmed, 47-year-old AMA Rashid, 26-year-old MAA Abdelraheem, 33-year-old WMA Yousif, 47-year-old FA Mohammed, 24-year-old AAA Mohammed and 23-year-old AAM Abdullah.

All of them were charged with violating the provisions of certain terms of the Federal Penal Code in addition to causing the death.

The court sentenced the first and the fourth defendants to pay a fine of Dhs5,000, while the others were fined Dhs2,000 each. The court also forced the defendants to pay blood money of Dhs200,000 and to fast for two months.
