7 years in jail for smuggling in drug

AHS, a 26-year-old Iranian visitor, was sentenced to seven years in jail for smuggling 4.8 kilos of methamphetamine in secrete pockets of his luggage.

The Dubai Criminal Court also ordered the convict to pay Dh50,000 and to be deported after serving his jail term.

Customs officer Khalfan Abdullah suspected AHS who had arrived at Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport. Searching his luggage, he discovered that secret pockets had been made in his bags. Opening them, he found a powder in plastic packets carefully hidden in these pockets.

“Confronting the accused with the powder , he denied knowing anything about the drugs  and said someone in his country had given him the bags, telling him that they contained antique portraits and that he wanted him to hand them over to someone in the UAE. The accused was referred to the anti-narcotics police,” he testified.

Another custom officer repeated the same testimony.
