The 10-day-old baby girl, who was found abandoned in Ajman on Sunday, is healthy and unhurt, confirmed a reliable source in the pediatric ward of the Khalifa Hospital.

This is the second such case reported within a fortnight in the UAE, with a 10-day-old baby girl found abandoned in Sharjah earlier this month.

“She will stay in the hospital, and we will take care of her, until someone comes forward for adoption,” said Abdulla Alraeesi, an official at the hospital.

And in case, the biological parents are found first, the baby will be handed over to them before they are deported from the emirate.

“The case has been reported to His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, as per protocol,” he said, adding, “And in case, no one comes forward and there’s a constraint on space, she will be handed over to the Sharjah health centre.”

According to the local media, the baby was found, wrapped in a cloth, at the Al Salaf Al Saleh Mosque in Al Naumia at 7am on Sunday.

Soon after a man informed the Ajman police about his discovery of a wailing baby in the mosque, the authorities rushed the little bundle to the hospital.

Hospital officials claimed that the parentage of the baby is still being investigated.
