A criminal court in Abu Dhabi sentenced an Asian man for 2.5 years in prison and ordered his deportation from the UAE after he was convicted of robbing an Asian nurse and biting off part of her face.

The unidentified man was also convicted of resisting arrest and biting the hands of two police men when they caught him.

The court sentenced the man to one year in jail for attacking the nurse, one year for forced robbery and six months for attacking police men, according to Alittihad daily.

The unnamed nurse was on her way back home late night from an Abu Dhabi hospital when she was attacked by the masked Asian.

When he grabbed her head, she tried to resist and managed to wrest his mask off. He was so furious that he bit off part of her face before snatching her mobile phone and running away.

The thief was arrested a few days later but his arrest cost a policeman part of his finger as the defendant used his teeth again. He also attacked another cop and bit his hand.

After three plastic surgeries, the nurse decided to return to her home country for further treatment and to ease her trauma although her sister in the UAE told court that she still sees nightmares.

The incident took place on Murour Road in the capital’s outskirts during Eid Al Adha in November during a quiet night. The thief made the mistake of his life when he stole the victim’s mobile phone and answered her sister’s call later.
