The Dubai Criminal Court acquitted an Egyptian accountant of a kidnapping charge but found him guilty of armed theft in a case involving a Filipina.

OAK, 34, will be deported after serving his jail term.

The victim MNJ, 26, a waitress, testified that she befriended the accused via a chat room, on Facebook and finally made contact on mobile phone.

In her testimony, the woman claimed: “He said that he was organising a party celebrating Eid Al Fitr and invited me. He gave me his address in International City.

“At around 2.45pm I rang the bell of flat No.101 on the ground floor, but he opened the door of the opposite flat, 106.

“When I asked him why, he pulled a knife from his pocket, held my neck and dragged me into his flat.

“He locked the door and threw me on a mattress. He then threatened me with an electric device asking me to take off my dress.

“I asked him to take anything he wants and to let me go. He then searched my bag and took my mobile phone.

“When he did this he put the knife on the floor. I grabbed the opportunity and took the knife. He tried to get it back, but I rushed towards the window, opened it and jumped out. I sought the help of a passerby who called the police,” she testified.

However, Khalid Abbas, the Syrian who helped the woman and called the police had a different story to tell in his testimony.

“She told me that while she was walking towards the Chinese market the accused called her and asked to help him get some stuff in the building.

“As she got into the building, she told me that he pulled a knife and dragged her into his flat.

“She said he then went to bring a chain to tie her, which is when she jumped from the balcony.”

Policeman Fahed Abbas testified that at around 3.30pm he headed to the location following a notification from the operation’s room.

According to the policeman, the door was not firmly locked and the police got into the flat.

“Her bag., slippers as well as mobile phone were there. The accused was arrested 500m away from the building,” he testified.

“The accused claimed that the woman had agreed to sleep with him for Dh1,500. However, he confessed to dragging her into the flat using a knife as a threat.

“The flat was not his and was empty. He had changed the locks a day before the crime.”
