A Pakistani driver allegedly groped a young Emirati woman in his car after offering her a lift to her place of work, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AK, 19, Emirati employee, complained that while she was waiting for a taxi near her house, a car stopped and she thought it was a taxi. Being late for work, she entered the car, sat on the back seat and asked the driver to drop her at her work place about five minutes away.

When she reached her office, she asked the driver for the fare but he refused to accept money.

“Instead, he asked me for my mobile number so that he could pick me up every day. When I refused to give it to him, he turned towards me and groped my left leg down towards my ankle which he held to prevent me from getting off the car. While he was holding my ankle, he snatched my mobile with his other hand and from it he dialled his number and thus he got my phonenumber,” the victim testified.

“I could release my leg from his grip and got off the car after snatching back my mobile. When I got out of the car he sped away,” the victim told investigators.

Police arrested RA, 37, and accused him of molestation which he denied. He claimed he knew the girl and that he used to drop her in his car.

The girl’s father refuted the driver’s claim and testified that he had never asked him to drop his daughter and that he did not know him before the incident.

The Court will give its sentence on May 22.
