A Kenyan porter who was captured by CCTV camera while opening a passenger’s luggage trying to steal, was sentenced to three months in jail by the Dubai Criminal Court.

FKB, 22, will be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, Sergeant Mohammed Salem, who works at the Field Control Section of the Airport Security Department, testified that he received a tip off about FKB, who works in the luggage loading and unloading area, that he opens passengers’ bags and cargo boxes for stealing from them.

The accused was recorded while opening passenger’s luggage more than once and searching for valuables.

When confronted with the recordings, FKB confessed to attempting to steal items from passenger luggage 11 times but all his attempts were in vain as he did not find anything valuable.

He confessed that once he found 2,000 Yemen riyals but he did not steal them because he was scared of taking them to a money changer.

At another time, he found electronic items but he did not steal them as he was afraid that he might be discovered at the checkout point when he left work.

The prosecution submitted to the court a CD that contained the recording.
