A Filipino technician at the airport allegedly stole things from the luggage of a passenger, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Cargo operations officer DD, 33, Indian, informed the police about repeated thefts that he had noticed and his suspicions about the technician.

“He used to steal things thrown out of luggage bags when they fell from the conveyor belt and got opened. Sometimes, he used to steal things after he himself opened luggage bags since he worked close to the conveyor belt,” the officer told police.

When confronted, JS, 29 admitted to the thefts.

Police searched him and confiscated a watch, gold and silver jewellery, two sunglasses, perfumes and an MP3 player.

The accused admitted to stealing things from passengers’ bags.

The court will give its sentence on September 14.
