Ajman scam fund woman gets 6 months in jail

An appeals court in Ajman turned down a previous three-year jail sentence against an Emirati female swindler and reduced it to six months after her lawyer argued the victims were also to blame because of their greediness.

A court of first instance in April sentenced the woman, MG, to three years after she was convicted of swindling more than Dhtwo million from several people through a scam investment fund.

“Her defence told court yesterday that she did not cheat any one but that because of their greediness, her clients reported her to the police,” the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said.

The woman, an employee at Ajman traffic police, was arrested on October 23 but was later released on bail.

Nearly 40 victims had told police that they had lost more than Dhtwo million after they were persuaded by that woman to invest their funds in an import project she had presumably set up in return for high profits.

Filipino found hanging in Kuwait

A Filipino was found hanging in a car park in Kuwait after he apparently committed a suicide, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Police rushed to the park at dawn after receiving phone calls from residents in the area about a body dangling by a rope.

“Forensic examination showed the man died of hanging after he apparently committed a suicide,” Alanba Arabic language daily said.

Indian found hanging by bus stand

An Indian man committed a suicide by hanging himself by the steel bar at a bus stand in Kuwait late night, press reports said on Wednesday.

Residents of Salimiya neighbourhood in Kuwait City called the police after they woke up in the morning and saw the body.

Police are investigating the case to know the motives for the man’s suicide, Alwatan Arabic language daily said.

Filipina raped by unknown man in Kuwait

An unknown man snatched a Filipina near her home in Kuwait, took her to a deserted place and raped her before dumping her near a church.

Passers by found the woman unconscious and called the police, who took her to the hospital, Alwatan daily said.

The girl later told police at hospital that she was raped by an unknown man who forced her into his car and drove to a desert area.
