A Pakistani accountant and his Afghani friends allegedly stole Dh2.55m from his employer, the Dubai Criminal court heard.

On April 2, at around 11pm, 24-year-old Afghani salesman, AW, kept the amount in a safe box in his accommodation in Naif area.

On the following day, he went to work and returned at around 1pm to discover an empty safe.

He immediately reported the crime to the police.

Police found out that the thieves used a key to open the safe and it was not broken.

Investigating the case, police located 34-year-old accountant, AA, in the same company that retained a key of the safe.

Police arrested his accomplices, 34-year-old TZ and SR.

The accountant admitted to the theft saying that he had planned for the theft and gave the flat's and the safe's keys to his two accomplices. They got into the flat in the absence of the saleman and stole the money.

Police retrieved the amount, which was in the possession of each of the accountant and his Chinese girlfriend and the two Afghanis.

The court will reconvene on August 23.
