A Pakistani salesman has been accused of forging papers to procure loan of Dh300,000 from a bank, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On October 18, 2015, 39-year-old, HM, approached a local bank in Dubai seeking personal loan.

He claimed to be a British civil engineer MS, working for Dubai Airports, with a monthly salary of Dh17,000.

HM approached the bank's branch in Ibn Battuta mall, filled necessary application forms and enclosed it with documents and submitted it to the concerned employee of the bank.

He was also asked to open an account to deposit the amount once the application was approved.

The accused opened the account using his forged documents and submitted the application to Indian sales executive AR, 34.

"I referred the two applications of personal loan and bank account to the concerned department. The bank approved the loan and deposited the amount in the applicant's new account. However, on the following day after depositing the amount, it was discovered that the submitted documents were forged, so it was immediately seized," testified AR.

Police arrested HM, who admitted to the crime and claimed that he accidentally found a photocopy of a British passport.

He downloaded it and photoshopped his friend's picture and typed a different name without the knowledge of the latter.

He also admitted to forging the ID card, labour card, and salary certificate.

Criminal evidences reported that all documents were forged based on letters sent by the concerned departments.

The court will reconvene on August 21.
