Assault on Dubai driver: Official's family files case over video

The family of the official has filed a case against the person who filmed the video and posted it on YouTube.

UAE law which prohibits anyone from taking videos or pictures in public areas without the acknowledgment of people involved.

The YouTube video posted by a passer-by shows the assault happening in clear view of other road users. One passer-by intervenes to stop the assault.

Legal accountability

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzinah, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, confirmed that the person who filmed the incident can be held legally accountable.

“It is not allowed for anyone to film others without the permission of the public prosecutor, or with the written permission of the person(s) who appear in the pictures.

“In this case it will be considered a violation of privacy,” he said.
Dubai Police have issued an order to summon the publisher of the video, where he will be questioned about the reason for its publication and distribution.

He stressed that it is better to submit such videos to the police as evidence.

The Dubai Police have removed the video from social networking sites and warned against re-publication, trading or distribution of the same.
