A jobless Emirati allegedly dragged a woman by her hair and pushed her into his car before driving her to his house where he attempted to rape her, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On April 30 at around midnight, EM, 23, Ethiopian babysitter, was with her friend in a cafeteria in Naif when a UAE citizen whom she knew since about two months entered the cafeteria, dragged her outside and pushed her into his car.

“I resisted him but I could not do anything. After pushing me into his car, he assaulted me. Two other men in the car tried to stop him from assaulting me. When he reached a house, he pulled me by my hair out of the car and pushed me into the house where there were a group of men... He threatened to confine me in the house if I did not have sex with him. He tried to rape me but I resisted him. Luckily, while he was doing that he got a phone call from the police,” EM said.

The attacker then took the victim in his car and dropped her in Naif area.

The victim, accompanied by a friend, went to the police station and reported about the incident.

Her friend and compatriot, JS, 28, said the victim did not resist the attacker when he dragged her out of the cafeteria because she was sacred of him.  He forcibly pushed her into his car.

The victim’s friend immediately called the police and informed about the kidnap of EM. Police rushed to the cafeteria and workers and clients confirmed the kidnap of the woman.

One of the cafeteria workers, RS, told the policeman that the kidnapper is a regular customer.

"The kidnapper KM, 32, Emirati, came together with other men and pushed EM into their car and drove away," he said.

RS also gave the police with mobile numbers of KM and the victim.

When police called KM, he answered the phone and claimed that she had come with him willingly. The policeman then asked him to talk to the woman.

“The woman told me that she went with him willingly. So I did not go and check his house,” Lieutenant Khalid Ahmad told investigators.

Forensic reported that the victim sustained bruises and scratches on her right hand.

The accused admitted to the accusation and claimed that the woman went with him to his house willingly.

The court will reconvene on September 14.
