Bad gamble: RAK man's casino at home

Published

A court in Ras Al Khaimah sentenced an Arab man to three years in prison for staging gambling games at his house in the Northern Emirate.

Police had raided the house following a tip off that the unidentified man had turned his house into a gambling hall almost every night.

Another Arab man caught by the police was acquitted by the court for lack of evidence he was involved in gambling.

Infant found stuck on tree-top

An infant about five months old was discovered on a tree top by the roadside in Algeria.

Passersby hearing the cries alerted cops who rushed to the infant’s aid, reported El Khabar daily.

About 70 policemen were involved in getting the baby boy down safely, who was stuck between branches 16 metres above ground.

Investigations are on to find out how the infant got up there on the tree and also to determine his parents.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that the parents might have possibly ‘discarded’ the child there. Or only the mother may have dumped the baby.

Another rumour doing the rounds is of a possible kidnapping case, when they abandoned the child after running into trouble.
