Beaten Kenyan woman dies at hospital in Dubai

A 26-year-old Kenyan woman died at hospital in Dubai after she was severely beaten up by an Emirati man who claimed he attacked her after she swore at him, press reports said on Thursday.

The woman’s friend had phoned the police when the man, who was accompanied with his friends, attacked her near Crowne Plaza Hotel on February 18, kicked her in the stomach and banged her head on the wall many times.

Police arrested the three but one of them confessed to the crime and said his two friends were not involved in the beating.

The men said their friend attacked the woman, identified as Ester, after she swore at them while her friends said the men were harassing her.

Ester had remained in the intensive care unit at Rashid Hospital for 31 days before she died on Tuesday, Emirat Alyoum newspaper said, quoting Colonel Ali Ghanim, head of the Bur Dubai police station.

“A permission to fly Ester’s body home for burial is expected to be issued within hours,” the paper said, adding that the woman was an ex-saleswoman at a shopping mall in the emirate.
