A criminal court in Abu Dhabi acquitted a Briton in charges of trying to smuggle drugs in the country after tests showed two small plastic bags found in his baggage at the airport contained only herb-like substance, newspapers said on Thursday.

The man was arrested at Abu Dhabi airport after customs men suspected the two bags contained drugs although he told them that he had never had drugs and that the two bags contained a deodorant substance for clothes.

Tests later showed there was no drug traces in the Briton’s blood and the two bags contained herbs, prompting the court to acquit him during hearings on Wednesday.
