The UAE’s top court rejected a sentence by a court in Abu Dhabi convicting a school bus driver in an incident involving the death of a school buy after falling off the vehicle, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

The driver had earlier been sentenced to one year in jail, fined Dh2,000 and ordered to pay Dh200,000 diya (blood money) after he was convicted of negligence, the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said.An appeals court later annulled the prison term and ordered the driver to pay the fine and diya.

But he appealed again with the Federal Supreme Court (FSC), arguing that the boy was the responsibility of the female supervisor in the bus

.“The FSC supported the driver’s appeal on the grounds the circumstances that surrounded the incident were not clear,” the paper said.It said the FSC referred the case to another court after the child’s mother testified that she had handed her son to the supervisor.
