Butchers fined Dh20,000 for raising prices

Abu Dhabi authorities fined some butchers Dh20,000 each for raising prices of some meat in violation of rules for price stability during the fasting month of Ramadan, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

After a raid on the meat market over the past two days, inspectors from the Ministry of Economy found that the prices of some stuff had been raised by nearly 20 per cent without any reason.

“Offenders were fined Dh20,000 each for raising prices without obtaining prior permission…we will not tolerate any increase during Ramadan,” said Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the Ministry’s consumer protection division.

Quoted by Alkhaleej Arabic language daily, Nuaimi said the Ministry had agreed with suppliers of meat and other consumer products to keep prices as they are during the fasting month, which began on Friday.
