The gang of 10 Pakistanis and Bangladeshis stole cables worth about Dh210,000 in a pick-up truck with a fake number plate, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Two other Bangladeshis were accused of buying the stolen cables with their knowledge.

On September 12 at around 12.30am they headed to the store in Al Qusais Industrial Area 1. They broke opened the gate and loaded the cables into the truck and sped away. They sold the cables for Dh17,000 and divided the loot among themselves.

The next morning, the owner of the company SN, 39, Indian, received a phone call from an employee informing him of the robbery.

“I was told the lock of my store was broken. I rushed there and found 1,793 electricity cables of different sizes missing. I informed police,” the owner said.

Police arrested one of the suspects in Sharjah. He admitted to the crime and confessed that he got a share of Dh1,200.

He led cops to a few others involved in the theft.

Police confiscated the vehicle, which carried a Sharjah number plate. The number was different from the one that was reported. Later, police found the original number plate of the pickup with some damages.

Meanwhile, police found out that the holder of the Sharjah number plate had filed a missing report.

The court will give verdict on May 25.
