Car burglar surprised by driver sleeping inside
A restaurant worker allegedly attempted to break into a car, not knowing that its driver was sleeping inside, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
TKR, the 40-year-old driver, decided to sleep in his car as he had misplaced his house key somewhere. He stopped his Nissan Sunny in a sandy area in Al Rashidiya and went to sleep.
“At around 2am, I woke up on hearing the sound of breaking glass. I opened the door of the car and saw the accused whom I recognised as a worker in a nearby restaurant. When I asked what he was doing near my car, he claimed that he fell on my car, causing the small rear glass window to break.
“I called the police who found a screw driver under my car. They also found out that a number of cars in the area had been broken into in the same way on the same night,” testified the victim.
Policeman Ibrahim Ishaq, who was rushed to the scene, testified that the accused was using a bicycle that he was hiding between cars nearby.
The accused admitted to breaking into three other cars on the same night and other cars two weeks earlier.
The Court will give its verdict on June 26.
