Four men in a black Jeep allegedly stopped near a pedestrian waiting for a taxi on a main road and robbed him at knife-point in broad daylight after claiming to be CID officers, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, on Friday December 20, 2013, at around 1.20pm, SS, 36, Bangladeshi worker, was standing off the street in Mankhool, waiting for a taxi.

“A black Jeep carrying four men stopped near me. The passenger next to the driver claimed to be CID and asked me for my ID. When I took out my wallet, a man sitting in the right back seat got off the car and pulled me in.

“Another man, who was also in the back seat, pulled a knife and pointed it at my neck before emptying my wallet which contained Dh2,250 and took my Samsung Galaxy worth Dh680. The attackers threatened to chop me up into pieces if I informed the police and then pushed me out of their car,” the victim told investigators.

The victim, who managed to note the car’s number, reported the incident to the police. Police identified the owner of the car as AM, 35, Pakistani clerk. Police arrested AM and the victim recognised him when shown to him via identification parade.

The records did not mention anything about AM’s companions.

AM is accused of stealing, along with accomplices, Dh2,200 and a Samsung mobile from SS at knife-point.

He is also accused of impersonating the CID.

The court will reconvene on July 3.
