AS, a Turkish accountant of the same company is charged with possessing Dh35,000 with the knowledge the cash was illegal. He was ordered pay Dh2,000 fine.

According to Prosecution records, the company’s Pakistani cashier Mohammed Husain testified that he received between Dh15m to Dh20m every day.

“On day 2 at around 2.30pm I put Dh1.2m packed in nylon in the drawer where he usually keeps money. And went upstairs to have lunch. Four people were in the company including ARM, who brought me a soft drink. After finishing my lunch I checked the drawer and did not find the amount there. I asked my colleague PM, who said he did see ARM carry a black sac outside. Apparently, on enquiring ARM replied he was going to Sadirat Iran bank in Murshid Suq where his uncle worked. I suspected ARM and immediately called the police."

Husain said that he does not lock the drawers when he goes upstairs because many clients visit the company to claim their money transfers.

“There was Dh3m in the same drawer. Guess ARM took this amount because it was separately packed. The company could not check the CCTV cameras because they were out of work,” he added.

ARM was arrested the following day at around 10pm from Al Rifaa area. He confessed to agreeing and planning with three others to steal the amount. He admitted that his role was to steal the money while the second accused would arrange a person for smuggling the amount overseas since he works in Riuzaina Exchange.

The second accused was also supposed to arrange their escape out of the country with the help of a person in Pakistan.
