Incited by her compatriot, a 30-year-old Ethiopian maid, KWZ, allegedly stole Dh1 million and jewellery from the safe of her employer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The compatriot had offered the maid to buy her a house in Ethiopia if she steals the money and jewellery from her employer.

The victim, ZSM, was practising sport in the living room when maid stole the goods. The key of the safe was in her bag which she had kept in her bedroom. When she found that the key was missing and safe was locked and the maid had disappeared, she immediately called the police. When police arrived at the scene and opened the safe, it found that safe was empty as money and jewellery had been stolen.

“There was about a million dirham and a big collection of jewellery,” testified the victim. Police investigated the theft and located the maid who was living with a compatriot.

KWZ confessed stealing her employer’s stuff after she’s provoked by the compatriot.

“On October 9, 2011, at around 2pm, I received a call from MMQ, Ethiopian, who had asked me to steal the money and jewellery from the safe of my employer who was excercising in the living room… I went to the bedroom, got the key of the safe from her bag and opened it… There was a big quantity of money and jewellery… I put the money and the gold in a bag I found in the safe and left the house… I called MMQ who came with his car… he dropped to Al Rashidiay after taking the bag… He gave me about Dh200,000 from the amount.

The next day he came and took the Dh200,000 and gave me Dh3,000 and told me that he will leave for Ethiopia where he will buy me a house,” she testified.

Police arrested few people who had taken money from MMQ; they told police that they were didn’t know that the money was stolen. They were given this money by MMQ to be transferred to his home country or against some commercial deals. The court will reconvene on June 18.
