Abu Dhabi police arrested three teen age boys for stealing money and other items from nine cars by smashing their windows.

Police detectives managed to identify the culprits after receiving reports from nine car owners about the burglary.

“We got them within 48 hours from receiving reports from the stolen car owners…they were targeting cars for money, mobile phones and laptops,” said Brigadier Maktoum Al Shareefi, director the Capital police.

Shareefi urged all car owners to be careful and not leave personal items inside their vehicles.

I was drunk when I stole; Thief

An Arab man who was arrested after stealing a mobile phone in Fujairah defended his behavior by telling court he was drunk when he stole it.

The judge accepted his argument and sentenced him to one year in jail and 80 lashes. He also ordered him deported after completing his prison term.

After appealing, his sentence was reduced to three months in prison but he would still be flogged 80 times.

Police said they had arrested the defendant and his friend after security cameras showed he snatched the mobile phone from a customer who went into a shop to sell his handset in the eastern emirate. His friend was fined Dh1,000 for failing to report the theft, according to Alkhaleej newspaper.

At court the defendant told the judge:” I was drunk and did not know what I was doing when I took the mobile phone.”
