The relatives of an Emirati man killed by another national by a “Ninja” sword for dating his sister refused to pardon him in return for diya (blood money) and insisted on his death, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Witnesses told court in the eastern emirate on Tuesday that they saw the victim lying in a pool of blood after an argument with the defendant behind a shopping mall and phoned the police and ambulance.

The victim was still alive when the ambulance rushed him to the hospital but he later succumbed to his injuries. The court was told that the defendant was driving his car near the mall in late 2011 when he was chased by the killer’s younger brother.“

The boy then phoned his elder brother after he saw his sister with the victim in his car……the elder brother came and had a fight with the victim after which he stabbed him with a Ninja sword in the stomach and the neck,” the semi official daily Alittihad said.

“During Tuesday’s hearings, the family of the victim rejected pleas for diya and insisted on the death punishment of the killer.”ends
