An Omani, who was allegedly caught smuggling in and possessing 1.84gms of hashish, claimed to Customs officers that they were only pieces of Moroccan dates.

K A, 41, arrived at Oman’s border with the UAE at 11.15pm on February 8 accompanied by another man.

“Searching them, we confiscated three pieces that appeared to be hashish from KA’s wallet. We also confiscated a cigarette stub stuffed with hashish,” testified inspector Mohammed Salem.

KA denied that they were hashish and claimed they were pieces of Moroccan dates. Traces and residues of hashish were also found on the SIM card of KA’s mobile phone. Custom officers searched the accused’s car but did not find any banned things.

The accused admitted to smuggling in and possessing hashish .

The Court will give its verdict on May 21.
