Daylight burglary at money exchange

It had all the ingredients of an action thriller. Two men pull over in a speeding car in front of a money exchange, one of them jumps over a glass, pulling out a revolver threatening the staff, while his accomplice loots the place - all in a matter of two minutes.

However, the only difference in this plot is the characters are facing trial at the Dubai Criminal Court.

According to Prosecution records, on September 23, 2012, two French men FMI, 21, and KH, 39, allegedly drove a stolen car for their mission at a money exchange company in Motor City. There they threatened the staff with a gun. FMI jumped over a glass desk and stole different currencies while KH kept the staff in place with a gun.

Two Emirati brothers -  MAG, 32, and AAG, 39 - are also accused in the case for allegedly supplying the French duo with the gun and bullets and helping them steal a car.

All the four are accused of possessing weapon without having licence and stealing car.

FMI admitted that he had agreed with the other three on robbing the company which is near their residence and had no security.

FMI testified: “I asked MAG to supply me with a gun, but the later said it is difficult. However, I asked him to meet his brother who could do it. After discussing the matter with his brother AAG the latter promised to smuggle it from Oman. After a couple of weeks, AAG brought the gun and I paid him Dh1,500 for it. Later, we managed to buy gloves and face masks and asked the two brothers to supply us with a car.

"MAG brought us a car that he stole it from alcohol dealer. On September 23, at 10am, I headed to the exchange company with KH who carried the gun and stopped in front of it where we put on the gloves and the masks and had a bag and then entered the company. We threatened the staff and clients, and robbed the company in two minutes and rushed back to the car with the money. We headed home and hid the gun and the money in the washing machine and the sport suits and left the house. The two brothers were aware that we will looted the firm and agreed to divide the amount after committing the crime,” FMI told investigators.

As the duo was operating in the company and the staff were threatened, one of the employee managed to hide underneath a desk and ring the police.

No sooner than the duo left the place than Dubai Police arrived at the site and collected CCTV footages and other evidences.

A Pakistani partner SMM, 30, from the adjacent office stood witness and testified that he saw the two rushing to a car holding a gun and a bag. He supplied the police with the car’s number plate.

Police seized the car from a sandy area in Motor City. The car's owner is not in the country, testified Captain Ali Saeed and added that the duo were arrested from a hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

"The two confessed to the crime and led the cops to the money they had looted. The gun, masks, gloves and clothes used were also confiscated from their residence. They admitted that the Emirati brothers helped them in their operation.

The court will reconvene on March 28.
